Koha is the world's first free and open-source Integrated Library System (ILS), currently used globally by libraries of all types and sizes. Created in 1999 by Katipo Communications for the Horowhenua Library Trust in New Zealand, the platform went live in January 2000. It is fully web-based and backed by a SQL database (such as MariaDB or MySQL), storing cataloguing data in standard MARC formats.
